Monsanto opens new facilities in Iowa. (FYI News & Notes).


Monsanto The Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON) is a multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation. It is the world's leading producer of the herbicide glyphosate, marketed as "Roundup".  celebrated the opening of its new state-of-the-art seed-corn processing facilities in Grinnell, Iowa Grinnell is a city in Poweshiek County, Iowa, United States. The population was 9,105 at the 2000 census. Grinnell was named after Josiah Bushnell Grinnell and is the home of Grinnell College. History

The dedication ceremony was attended by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge Patty Jean Judge (born November 2, 1943 in Fort Madison, Iowa) is the current Lieutenant Governor and former Secretary of Agriculture in the U.S State of Iowa. She was elected to the office in 2006, after unsuccessfully seeking the Democratic Party nomination for the 2006 Iowa , along with other government officials. The new facility is designed to take hybrid hybrid (hī`brĭd), term applied by plant and animal breeders to the offspring of a cross between two different subspecies or species, and by geneticists to the offspring of parents differing in any genetic characteristic (see genetics).  seed-corn still on the cob, shell, clean, treat and bag it for sale to farmers. Construction began a year and a half ago on the multimillion-dollar facility, and the plant is now ready to begin receiving corn.
