Monroe, Oakland pursue semifinal spot.

Monroe and Oakland are both unranked, and neither won a league title this season, yet one of those two teams will be in the state Class 2A/1A softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  semifinals.

 to reach state. The Dragons defeated Corbett 6-3 in Wednesday's first-round game.

Oakland went 9-5 in the Big Fir League to finish tied for second with Gold Beach, and the Oakers defeated the Panthers 8-6 in a league playoff game. Oakland defeated Lost River 5-3 in the first round of the state playoffs.

Fourth-ranked North Douglas won the Big Fir title with a 14-0 mark, and the Warriors open the playoffs by hosting second-ranked Regis, which beat Riddle riddle, puzzling question, specifically one that consists of a fanciful description or definition of something to be guessed. A famous riddle was asked by the Sphinx: "What goes on four legs in the morning, on two at noon, on three at night?" Oedipus guessed the  18-0 in the first round.

Top-ranked Elmira continues its quest to get back to the 3A title game by traveling to Rogue River Rogue River

In baseball, Pleasant Hill travels to Wilsonville for a matchup between teams that were tied for fifth in the final 3A poll of the season. Douglas, the Far West co-champion, hosts Cowapa League champion Seaside Seaside.

Ninth-ranked Reedsport travels to No. 10 Heppner for a 2A/1A quarterfinal game.
