Monotype Imaging Scalable Font and Multilingual Solution is Available for Mobile Phone Manufacturers via QUALCOMM's BREW Solution; Monotype Imaging's Technologies Also Accessible as Part of QUALCOMM's uiOne Offering.

SAN DIEGO -- Scalable font rendering and multilingual technologies from Monotype Imaging Inc. are available for handset manufacturers as part of QUALCOMM's BREW(R) solution. For the first time, handset manufacturers have access to Monotype Imaging's technologies as an extension to the BREW client porting kit, as well as the BREW software development kit (SDK(R)). This includes the ability to use a standard framework to support scalable fonts and multilingual capabilities for mobile phones.

Monotype Imaging has created a BREW extension which contains Monotype Imaging's iType(R) font engine, a scalable font rendering subsystem based on industry-standard TrueType(R) and OpenType(R) font formats, and the company's WorldType(R) Layout Engine, a modular software library for composing, positioning and rendering multilingual text, including complex scripts such as Arabic, Hebrew and Thai.

Monotype Imaging will work with customers to integrate fonts from the company's comprehensive range of multilingual typefaces engineered for optimal on-screen quality. Monotype Imaging also has introduced a suite of theme-based fonts, the first in the industry optimized for high-quality display on mobile phones.

Monotype Imaging's technology will be available to handset manufacturers through the uiOne(TM) SDK in late June and as standard BREW extensions in late summer. The iType and WorldType Layout Engine products are expected to be available later in the year for BREW operators, content providers, publishers and developers.
