Monotype Imaging Licenses Font Technologies to QUALCOMM for the BREW Solution; Monotype Imaging's technologies will also enhance QUALCOMM's uiOne offering.

WOBURN, Mass. & SALFORDS, Surrey, England -- Monotype Imaging Inc., a global provider of font and imaging technologies worldwide, has licensed its font rendering and text layout solution to QUALCOMM Incorporated for its BREW(R) solution. The technologies will provide BREW handset manufacturers a standard framework to support scalable fonts and multilingual text layout capabilities.

Monotype Imaging's technologies are expected to be available as an extension to the BREW client porting kit, as well as the BREW SDK(R), in the summer of 2006. This BREW extension will contain Monotype Imaging's iType(R) scalable font rendering subsystem, based on industry-standard TrueType(R) and OpenType(R) font formats, and the company's WorldType(TM) Layout Engine, a modular software library for composing, positioning and rendering multilingual text, including complex scripts such as Arabic, Hebrew and Thai. Monotype Imaging will also work with customers to select font support from the company's comprehensive range of multilingual typefaces engineered for optimal on-screen quality.
