([R]) Mobile brand of fonts through the introduction of more than 200 designs tailored for exceptional viewing on mobile phones. The latest selection builds upon the company's 13 fonts released in June as the industry's first typeface The design of a set of printed characters, such as Courier, Helvetica and Times Roman. The terms "typeface" and "font" are used interchangeably, but the typeface is the primary design, while the font is the particular implementation and variation of the typeface, such as bold or italics  collection that enables developers, content providers, wireless operators and handset manufacturers to enhance mobile products through scalable, stylistic fonts.

Monotype Imaging's ESQ Mobile fonts are derived from the company's Monotype([R]) and ITC([R]) font libraries, in addition to new selections from the Linotype Library. "Through our acquisition of Linotype Library GmbH, we're now able to provide the mobile world with choice designs from one of the most prestigious typeface collections ever assembled," Haley said. "This is one of our first collaborative projects with Linotype that will ultimately benefit our mobile customers. They'll now have access to designs from a resource that had traditionally served creative professionals working primarily on desktop computers."

In addition to more than 200 designs based on the Latin-1 character set and standard TrueType([R]) and OpenType([R]) font formats, the ESQ Mobile collection now includes a Simplified Chinese font fine-tuned with Monotype Imaging's SmartHint[TM] technology. The new, patent-pending method works with the company's iType([R]) 3.0 font engine to enable the high-quality display of complex East Asian text, scaled to small sizes. "SmartHint offers substantial benefits," said Geoff Greve, vice president of font development at Monotype Imaging. "In addition to maintaining small file sizes, SmartHint frees our customers from settling on the use of fixed-in-size embedded Inserted into.
