 Imaging Inc., a global provider of text imaging solutions, has announced that Doug Shaw, formerly a senior vice president within the company, has succeeded Robert M. Givens as president and chief executive officer. Givens, who decided to retire as of Jan. 1, 2007, will remain as chairman of Monotype Imaging's board of directors.

In his role as senior vice president, Shaw led Monotype Imaging's 2006 acquisition of Linotype GmbH, a typeface company that has produced some of the world's most popular designs, including the Helvetica([R]) typeface. Said Shaw, "As we've been able to adapt our business over the years to support new media and methods for communicating with type, we've been able to draw upon the one aspect that's remained unchanged - the aesthetic appeal that typefaces deliver. The various type designs within the Linotype Library are a welcome addition to our type portfolio."

Prior to Monotype Imaging, Shaw held various management positions at Agfa Corp. He holds a bachelor's degree from Boston College Boston College, main campus at Chestnut Hill, Mass.; coeducational; Jesuit; est. and opened 1863. Actually a university, the school's Chestnut Hill campus comprises colleges of arts and sciences and business administration, the graduate school, and schools of nursing  and an M.B.A. from Babson College Babson College, located in Wellesley, Massachusetts (zoned as "Babson Park," ZIP code 02457),[1] is a private business school that grants all undergraduates a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
