Moneyball: go home, collect $200.

Byline: Shawn Miller The Register-Guard

For the second consecutive evening, Eric Sogard is the most popular man among the Eugene Emeralds The Eugene Emeralds (nicknamed the Ems) are a minor league baseball team in Eugene, Oregon, United States. They are a Class A team in the Northwest League, and have been a farm team of the San Diego Padres since 2001. .

A night after launching his first professional home run, Sogard drilled a grand slam grand slam

Sogard pocketed $200 for the grand slam, adding to the $100 he made on Wednesday after hitting his first home run over a sponsor's billboard - meaning Sogard will be the one to buy his teammates' drinks in the near future.

"I think I have to now," Sogard said. "Hopefully they won't get used to it."

Eugene's Aeden McQueary and Andy Parrino walked to lead off the third inning before Luis Durango blooped a single in front of Tri-City center fielder Brian Rike to load the bases.

After a first-pitch ball, Sogard blasted blast·ed

"I was hoping he'd come in there with a fastball, and he left it over the middle of the plate and I was able to get the head out on it," Sogard said. "It was middle in, kind of waist high. Just a beautiful pitch to hit."

The Emeralds added a run in the fourth inning on an RBI RBI

Eugene center fielder Danny Payne dropped a routine fly ball to begin the inning, allowing leadoff hitter In baseball, a leadoff hitter is a batter who bats first in the lineup. Strategy

Everth Cabrera then looped an RBI single into center field before an error on a ground ball allowed two runs to score. Helder Velazquez hit the ground ball to Parrino at shortstop, but the ball skipped away as Parrino tried to field it.

"I just tried to throw the ball to second before I had it in my glove," Parrino said. "I just got to slow it down out there. I was going too fast and one got away.

"It's not my first error and it won't be my last. You've just got to let it go. The play's over and you've just got to move on and be ready for the next one."

Each team scored a run in the seventh and after Tri-City cut the gap to 6-5 in the top of the eighth, Parrino came up with a clutch hit in the bottom of the inning Noun 1. bottom of the inning - the second half of an inning; while the home team is at bat

"A little insurance never hurts," said Parrino, who batted ninth and finished the game 2-for-3 with two doubles and three runs.

Durango finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run.
