Money available for young farmers.Money available for young farmers--To increase support for young and beginning farmers and ranchers, the Farm Credit System made $14.8 billion available to young farmers and beginning farmers in 2006. The Farm Credit Administration Farm Credit Administration (FCA), an independent agency of the executive branch of the federal government that supervises and coordinates the Farm Credit System for American agriculture. (FCA FCA Abbreviation for the Free Carrier ), which oversees and tracks activities of the Farm Credit System, reported more than 46,000 loans totaling $5.5 billion to young farmers (through age 35), representing 17 percent of all new loans made by the System and 10.5 percent of the new loan dollar volume. Compared to 2005, Farm Credit institutions made 4,000 more loans in 2006, which amounted to $400 million more. Beginning farmers (10 or fewer years in farming) received more than 57,000 new loans totaling $9.3 billion. This amounted to 21.2 percent of all new loans and 17.8 percent of new loan dollar volume.
