Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

ANDOVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 2003

Monaco Systems announces the introduction of Monaco GamutWorks(TM). This profile analysis tool allows for the visualization, evaluation and verification of ICC profiles (International Color Consortium profile) An ISO-approved color management standard for specifying the attributes of imaging devices such as scanners, digital cameras, monitors and printers so that the color of an image remains true from source to destination. . Monaco GamutWorks is the perfect complement to the Monaco Systems' family of professional color management products. The utility will be included in the latest releases of MonacoPROOF(TM), MonacoPROFILER(TM) Gold and MonacoPROFILER Platinum Editions, which provide the highest quality profiles with an easy to use wizard-like interface.

Monaco GamutWorks is a full-featured utility for evaluating and graphing ICC-compliant profiles. Device color gamuts The entire range of colors available on a particular device such as a monitor or printer. A monitor, which displays RGB signals, typically has a greater color gamut than a printer, which uses CMYK inks.  can be plotted in 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional views simultaneously, allowing for precise comparison of the size and shape of different device gamuts. The interactive display provides information for making knowledgeable decisions about the profiles, such as identifying and displaying out-of-gamut image colors, selecting the most appropriate rendering intents Rendering intent refers to the way the CMM (Color Management Module) will handle out-of-gamut colors during a conversion from one color space to another. The International Color Consortium specification includes four different rendering intents: perceptual,  and viewing the capabilities of different color devices.

"Monaco GamutWorks brings creative professionals an entirely new, objective method for evaluating devices, profiles and images," said Stephen Rankin, director of product development for Monaco Systems. "Now there is a painless pain·less

MonacoPROOF provides a basic level of profiling for creating RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. RGB was derived from our own perception of color because human eyes are sensitive to red, green and blue (see trichromaticity).  and CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow blacK) The color space used for commercial printing and most color computer printers. In theory, cyan, magenta and yellow (CMY) can print all colors, but inks are not pure and black comes out muddy.  output profiles, along with profile editing tools for lightness, saturation and output curves. The MonacoPROFILER Gold Edition includes all the features in MonacoPROOF, but offers expanded profile editing capabilities with fine-tune editing for neutrals and colors, selective color Selective color is a post-processing technique where most of a photo is converted to black and white, but some parts are left in color. This is usually achieved by using layers and masks in photo editing software (The GIMP or Photoshop, for example).  editing, and expert black generation control. The fully featured MonacoPROFILER Platinum Edition completes the trio with multi-color profiling for up to 8 colors and digital camera profiling using industry standard targets.

Monaco GamutWorks is included with MonacoPROOF and MonacoPROFILER. MonacoPROOF version 3.7 is priced at $1650, MonacoPROFILER Gold version 4.6 at $2950 and MonacoPROFILER Platinum version 4.6 at $4250. Current users can download the utility from the Monaco Systems' website at www.monacosys.com.
