Proprietary silicone fluid concentrates for all thermoplastics improve mold release, reduce overall cycle time, reduce rejects, and improve part wear and bearing properties. AIRTECH ADVANCED MATERIALS GROUP

Release All environmentally friendly release agents for metal and plastic molds contain no CFCs, low VOCs, and are non-Red Label. Products can work up to 900 F and clean off easily. Safelease 30 PTFE-based, non-silicone release agent has no solvents and is 100% water-based. AKCROS CHEMICALS AMERICA

Interstab G-8257 additive-type internal mold release for use in a number of polymer applications. FDA-approved, physical properties include a melting point of 288-295 E In rigid PVC, G-8257 improves melt-flow characteristics and yields products with reportedly good surface finish, color and physical properties. In flexible PVC and plastisols, G-8257, at levels of 0.20-1.50 phr, provides external lubrication or mold-release properties.

Armoslip slip agents add slip and anti-block characteristics and serve as internal mold releases. Products reportedly speed up molding and extrusion, and give a smooth surface, high gloss, and close conformity to mold details. These high-molecular-weight fatty acid amides dissolve in resins at processing temperatures but migrate to the surface of products as they cool.

AMERICAN INGREDIENTS CO.

Offers glycerol esters with a range of particle sizes that function as mold-release agents. Pationic 901 fine beads act as internal mold releases in polyolefins as well as providing antistatic and lubrication benefits. Pationic 909 and 919 very fine beads are beneficial in rotational-molding applications by aiding in mold release and effective blending of pigments and colorants.

AMERICHEM INC.

Specialty lubricant concentrates for most thermoplastics reportedly improve wear resistance and mold release, reduce war-page and rejects, lower material and energy costs, make finishing easier, and reduce tool wear. Available in cubes, pellets or as powders, offered alone or in multifunctional concentrates.

AXEL PLASTICS RESEARCH LABORATORIES

Xtend water- and solvent-based semi-permanent releases are reactive resin solutions that crosslink, curing to provide a durable release film. Products offer a wide selection of mold sealers and releases for all types of resin and composite molding applications including open molding, compression molding, vacuum transfer, RTM, RIM and filament winding.

BAKER PETROLITE POLYMERS GROUP

Synthetic polyethylene-based low-molecular-weight polymers and related derivative products and microcrystalline waxes for use as mold-release agents and antiblocking agents for thermoplastic elastomers, polyurethanes, polystyrenics, and polyolefins in film, foam, and injection molding applications. FDA-compliance on many products.

BASF CORP. CHEMICALS

Luwax PE and montan waxes for use as lubricating, wetting and mold-release agents, as well as dispersants for pigments and fillers. Compatible with a wide variety of TPUs, nylon, PC and ABS. Can be extruded, injection and blow molded. In extrusion, products reportedly allow control over plastication time and maximum torque, and reduce tack and improve gloss of finished goods. In film processes these waxes reportedly reduce tack without affecting film transparency and do not plate out.

CAMIE-CAMPBELL INC.

External release agents, primarily for injection molding, but including compression molding, extrusion and RIM.

Also a range of paintable and silicone-based products from very light-duty film-forming sprays to heavy products specifically designed for rigid PUR foams. Paintable releases available as dry and lecithin-based lubricants, as well as light-duty and heavy-duty. Products available in aerosol packages or in 5-gal or 55-gal bulk containers.

CHEM-PAK INC.

Mold-Ease mold-release agents for injection molding. Other products include silicone and paintable nonsilicone releases, lecithin-based releases, mold cleaners, and mold rust-preventive product. Available in aerosol and bulk.

CHEM-TREND L.P.

Lusin release agents and additives for most molding applications. Products include acrificial and semi-permanent releases as well as mold cleaners and sealers. Markets served include automotive, aerospace, composites, marine and all other FRP manufacturing processes.

CHEMTURA CORP.

Silicone fluids in a range of viscosities plus organomodified fluids are used as internal lubricants and mold releases for thermoplastics. Typical product is L-45 used at viscosities of 10,000 to 60,000 cst. Products reduce coefficient of friction, improve wear resistance, and may improve surface appearance and gloss of molded parts.

Other internal mold-release additives include Kemamide E, S, B and U primary fatty amides for PE, PP, PVC, PUR and elastomers.

Hystrene fatty acids recommended as mold release and lubricants in PS.

Atmos 150, Atmul 84 and Dimul S food-grade mold-release, antistatic and antifogging agents for polyolefins and PVC.

MoldPro internal mold-release agents and processing aids for polyolefins, engineering resins and elastomers.

CLEARCO PRODUCTS CO., INC.

High-performance silicone spray release agent for molded materials formulated without methylene chloride or trichloroethane. Product dries instantly, meets FDA specifications, is nonflammable, and does not contain any Class I ozone-depleting chemicals.

COGNIS CORP. PLASTICS TECHNOLOGY DIV.

Fatty-acid esters for use as internal or external lubricants for various engineering resins and PVC formulations. Supplied in solid and liquid forms. Help increase production rates, reduce melt temperatures and reduce power consumption.

Specific polymeric polyfunctional esters such as Loxiol G70S for mold release in rigid and flexible PVC.

Other esters such as Loxiol HOB7119 are effective as mold releases for acrylics, acetals and PC. Loxiol G71S is a mold release for polyurethane. Simple esters include Loxiol G33 and Loxiol G47 for PC.

CRODA INC.

Crodamide lubricant additives used to reduce the coefficient of friction, improve mold flow, and mold release in PE, PP, PET, PS, PVC, nylon, and other specialty engineering resins. These high purity additives do not contribute to mold build-up.

DEXTER CORP.

From Ceara Products Div., mold-release waxes made from refined No. 1 carnauba wax. Build-up is said to be reduced and color transfer eliminated. Waxes thoroughly cured before shipment and ready for immediate use in fiber-reinforced plastics, cultured marble, and polymer concrete.

From Frekote Div., Frekote mold-release products for elastomeric, thermoset, and thermoplastic molding applications:

* Frekote 44-NC/55-NC semi-permanent, nontransferring releasing interface for molding fiberglass, graphite, and boron reinforced epoxy and BMI composites.

* Frekote 700-NC/770-NC general-purpose, semi-permanent release agent for operations requiring high slip, as in filament winding.

* Frekote FRP-NC polymer releasing interface for molding fiberglass boats, tubs, shower stalls, and cultured marble sinks. Suitable for RTM.

* Aqualine water-based products, providing performance equal to traditional solvent-based release agents, are suited for molding rubber parts or composite parts from heated molds.

* Frekote CFC-free mold sealers and release agents for polyester, rubber, composite, epoxy and rotomolded PE applications where safety and environment are concerns.

D-M-E CO.

Three grades of low-build-up, spray-on mold releases available in 16-oz cans. All-purpose economical silicone grade provides dependable performance for most applications. Premium silicone grade for tougher sticking problems and FDA-approved for food industry applications. The third grade, a paintable mold release for parts to be painted, plated or hot-stamped. Silicone-free and suitable for use with PS and most other resins.

DOW CORNING CORP.

Silicone fluids, coatings, dispersions and emulsions as internal and external mold releases for use with most plastics, urethane, metal, and rubber mold materials.

Silicone fluids in a range of viscosities are essentially nontoxic and present a very low environmental hazard. Thermally stable and available in industrial, food, and medical grades.

Release coatings include quick-curing silicone resins, palatable materials, 100% silicone fluids and resin/fluid blends. Some products approved for food processing and packaging.

Dispersion products include room-temperature vulcanizing elastomers that cure to a tough, rubbery coating. Good release from sticky materials, and effective from -57 to 204 C.

Emulsions may be nonionic or anionic and can generally be applied by brushing, spraying or wiping. Offer good lubricity, stability and water-repellency. Used with acrylics, epoxies, elastomers and castings.

DUPONT PERFORMANCE LUBRICANTS DCSE

TraSys water-based release coatings enable molders to meet stringent regulations without sacrificing production.

EASTMAN CHEMICAL CO.

Epolene polyolefin waxes offered as extrusion lubricants for rigid PVC. Also useful as processing and mold releases for ABS, polyesters, PC, nylons, polybutylenes, and PE.

FERRO CORP. PLASTIC COLORANTS DIV.

Synpro metallic stearate lubricants Synpro calcium stearate 15F and Synpro-Flo 92 for flexible and rigid PVC are easily dispersed, low-dusting, high-bulk and granular. Synpro calcium stearate 114-36, 114-40, and Synpro zinc stearate 8 for HDPE, LLDPE and PP. Synpro zinc stearate XRP mold-release agent for reinforced plastics features more efficient release, improved surface, more rapid wet-out, lower mix viscosity, and improved handling characteristics.

FRANKLYNN INDUSTRIES, INC. AN ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS CO.

QS9000/ISO9001 certified company offers Diamondkote and Aqualift solvent-free, water-based release agents that bond to the tool surface, enabling multiple releases and increased productivity. Products decrease build-up on tool surfaces and parts and extend tool life between cleanings. Nonsettling and freeze-thaw stable. Applications include rigid PUR, RIM, and integral-skin foams; polyester FRP for bathtubs, spas, showers, cultured marble, and boats; thermoplastics; and epoxy and polyimide.

MCGEE INDUSTRIES INC. MCLUBE DIV.

Manufactures semi-permanent release coatings for all types of parts and polymers. Products offer excellent lubricity and part appearance.

Also new environmentally friendly water-based products, which are FDA approved.

MERECO PRODUCTS DIV. METACHEM RESINS CORP.

Metapart 7582 fluorocarbon external mold-releases available in bulk packaging.

M. MICHEL & CO., INC.

Cachalot plastics additive S-53T3 higher-alcohol-based extrusion, casting, and calendering aid primarily for flexible PVC prevents plastic from sticking to molds and dies.

Michel XO-24 integral processing additive for use in resins such as linear PE and PVC. Components are FDA-approved for food-contact applications and can be used as a release agent inherent in its functions as an antistatic agent. Michel XO-24 improves mold release and de-staticizes without significantly reducing surface resistance of molded or cast resin.

TIODIZE CO. INC.

Tiolon X20 PTFE external mold-release agent and lubricant for injection molding. Dries in minutes and increases service life with no transfer or build-up. It is translucent with a very thin film thickness of 0.0002 to 0.0007 in. and resistant to fluids, chemicals, abrasion, and corrosion. Product can also be used to lubricate anodized aluminum by impregnating the oxide layer, which reportedly extends wear life and provides superior release characteristics.

I think it would be better to clasify internal and external mold release agent.
