Mold release.Xtend 875 mold release is said to provide significant labor and material savings in RIM molding applications by improving the ease of mold release, and at the same time reducing mold wax buildup. Xtend 875 for RIM applications is said to provide the ultimate performance in high volume applications that demand clean part production, such as interior and exterior automotive and truck parts. Xtend 875 was used in a manufacturing facility for automotive parts employing an RIM process to produce bumpers and door fascias for high performance sports vehicles. It was applied to clean molds using an HVLP HVLP - High Velocity Lead Poisoning HVLP - High Volume Low Pressure spray gun with a .020 spray tip and atomizing air pressure of 30-35 psi. Initially, three to four coats of Xtend 875 were applied to molds that ranged in temperature from 150-180[degrees]F. Within five minutes, the molds that had been prepared with Xtend 875 were ready to be injected with resin. In the case of the wax release, such speed would not be possible, according to the company, because the wax-based release requires hand polishing after application to achieve a suitable finish.
