Mold locks & retainers fight abrasive wear. Two new series of tooling components designed to reduce friction and wear come from Progressive Components, Wauconda, Ill. New needle-bearing side and top locks provide precise registration between mold mold, name for certain multicellular organisms of the various classes of the kingdom Fungi, characteristically having bodies composed of a cottony mycelium. The colors of molds are caused by the spores, which are borne on the mycelium. halves while preventing metal-to-metal friction when the mold halves move together. Long, thin steel bearings provide lifting without metal-to-metal wear. In tests, the locks reportedly showed virtually no wear after 1 million cycles. Progressive also has new slide retainers that eliminate the resistance and abrasion abrasion /abra·sion/ (ah-bra´zhun) 1. a rubbing or scraping off through unusual or abnormal action; see also planing. 2. a rubbed or scraped area on skin or mucous membrane. that can occur with other slide locks. The retainers have a roller roller, common name for brightly colored Old World birds noted for performing somersaults in flight. They include the rollers proper (subfamily Coraciinae) and ground rollers (subfamily Brachypteraciinae that engages a groove in the side-action assembly and a spring that has been tested for millions of cycles. The retainers are said to be more compact and easier to machine than other units and can manage heavier loads with maintenance-free operation.
