Modine's West Kingston Plant Donates Computers to United Way of Providence, RI.

:MODI MODI Microsoft Office Document Imaging ) is helping to re-train hundreds of workers in the West Kingston and Providence area by donating 25 computers to the United Way "Make it Work" program. The computers will be used to teach older workers the basic functions of the Internet, such as e-mail, researching and applying for jobs online. The program will also train participants of all ages on data entry, word processing word processing, use of a computer program or a dedicated hardware and software package to write, edit, format, and print a document. Text is most commonly entered using a keyboard similar to a typewriter's, although handwritten input (see pen-based computer) and , and basic computer functions so they may acquire the skills to earn a better, higher paying job. The United Way said this donation of hardware is much needed and comes at a time when other groups are cutting back on their gifts.

"So many places are cutting back, with reduced funding, we thought this would be a good way to help them, and improve the workforce at the same time," said Amy Anderson, Human Resources Supervisor, at Modine's West Kingston facility.  facilities. "This is a great way to donate something we don't need anymore, and actually help improve the employee pool in our area. The 'Make it Work' program works for everyone," said Anderson.

Modine's West Kingston plant employs nearly 100 people and manufactures steam and hot water unit heaters, electric heaters, oil-fired unit heaters, cabinet heaters and commercial fin tube radiation products. Modine employs nearly 8,000 people worldwide, and specializes in thermal management components, bringing heating and cooling technology to diversified markets.
