Model Technology Delivers Higher Performance and New Debug Capabilities in ModelSim 5.6.

Business Editors/Technology Writers

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March. 18, 2002

Building on its leadership in mixed-language simulation, Model Technology, a Mentor Graphics Mentor Graphics, Inc (NASDAQ: MENT) is a US-based multinational corporation dealing in electronic design automation (EDA) for electrical engineering and electronics, as of 2004, ranked third in the EDA industry it helped create.  (Nasdaq:MENT) company, today announced the availability of ModelSim(R) 5.6.

The new version of ModelSim provides designers with features that greatly enhance productivity and increase time-to-market, including up to 2X faster performance, new debug To correct a problem in hardware or software. Debugging software means locating the errors in the source code (the program logic). Debugging hardware means finding errors in the circuit design (logical circuits) or in the physical interconnections of the circuits.  tools and an improved regression test flow.

"ModelSim 5.6 is the next step in our strategy of offering a total solution that includes enhanced performance and better debugging capabilities," John Lenyo, director of marketing for Model Technology. "This release includes improvements across the simulation flow, from design entry to gate-level simulation."

Improved Performance Throughout the Flow

ModelSim 5.6 offers up to 2X faster simulation performance, ensuring designers have the most powerful mixed-language simulation tool. ModelSim 5.6 also includes a new option that allows designers to perform the elaboration step (design loading) once. This eliminates having to reload (1) To load a program from disk into memory once again in order to run it. Reload is entirely different than reinstall. Reinstall means that you have to run the install program from a CD-ROM or floppy disk and perform the installation procedure over again.  the design and SDF (Standard Data Format) A simple file format that uses fixed length fields. New Interactive Debug Features

ModelSim 5.6 includes three new debug features that significantly increase productivity. First, a new visual tracing engine enables designers to quickly traverse forward and backward through a graphical view of the design to track problems. Second, ChaseX(TM), a new x-tracing capability, automatically finds the source of any unknown while displaying the entire logical path. Third, an integrated C debugging capability lets a designer view C or C++ code directly in the ModelSim Source Window, greatly simplifying the debug of PLI PLI Practising Law Institute

Increased Ease-of-Use Features

Extending its leading ease-of-use capabilities, ModelSim 5.6 includes a new HDL (Hardware Description Language) A language used to describe the functions of an electronic circuit for documentation, simulation or logic synthesis (or all three). Although many proprietary HDLs have been developed, Verilog and VHDL are the major standards.  Editor that incorporates the entire Verilog and VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) A hardware description language (HDL) used to design electronic systems at the component, board and system level. New design and testbench wizards further automate many of the tasks involved in creating a simulation, helping new users get their simulations started faster.

Pricing and Availability

ModelSim 5.6 will be available in early April. Perpetual pricing starts at $4,495 for ModelSim PE and $19,000 for ModelSim SE. Term licenses are also available.
