Mocana Achieves Peak Performance With New Acceleration Harness.

Latest Offering Unleashes the Power of Freescale Processors - Hardware Offload Exceeds All Estimates of Achievable Performance

SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  -- Mocana, a provider of complete open standards-based security solutions that secure next generation networks and services all the way to edge devices, today announced the availability of the Mocana Acceleration Harness 2.0, a software layer that virtualizes and manages crypto offload from software to hardware. The Mocana Acceleration Harness is available as part of the Mocana Device Security Framework or bundled with other Mocana security products.

"We are excited by this new release of the Mocana Acceleration Harness. The early benchmarking results we have seen clearly show the value of our truly asynchronous Refers to events that are not synchronized, or coordinated, in time. The following are considered asynchronous operations. The interval between transmitting A and B is not the same as between B and C. The ability to initiate a transmission at either end.  architecture," said Adrian Turner, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Mocana. "With this groundbreaking technology, for the first time the market can fully unleash the power of crypto acceleration engines in off-the-shelf processors, portable across the spectrum of operating systems and security protocols. Many of our customers and partners have expressed to us their frustrations in not being able to source a software solution that can fully take advantage of hardware acceleration and are ecstatic that one now exists that comes from a trusted source."

Silicon vendors are increasingly integrating hardware acceleration engines into their products to speed up cryptographic operations while freeing up the central processing unit See CPU.

(architecture, processor) central processing unit - (CPU, processor) The part of a computer which controls all the other parts. Designs vary widely but the CPU generally consists of the control unit, the arithmetic and logic unit (ALU), registers, temporary buffers

) to continue to perform other tasks in parallel. However, to fully utilize the capabilities of acceleration engines, software is required that has a true asynchronous architecture. Asynchronicity is essential to successful parallel processing - the ability for chips to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, ultimately increasing efficiency. There is a clear demand in the market today to address this and no product was available until now that met the requirements delivering the speed and performance of Mocana's software together with off the shelf devices such as Freescale Semiconductor's family of PowerQUICC[TM] processors. Mocana's Acceleration Harness features an asynchronous core that is uniquely suited to take full advantage of hardware acceleration, is easy to use, high performance, and has the industry's smallest footprint.

Mocana's Acceleration Harness, as part of Mocana's Device Security Framework, is the missing link to fully unleash the capabilities of chips that contain security acceleration cores, while at the same time minimizing CPU utilization. It is designed to work across multiple security protocols including SSL/TLS SSL/TLS Secure Socket Layer/Transport Security (IETF) , SSH (Secure SHell) A security protocol for logging into a remote server. SSH provides an encrypted session for transferring files and executing server programs. Also serving as a secure client/server connection for applications such as database access and e-mail, SSH supports a , IPsec/IKE, and EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) A protocol that acts as a framework and transport for other authentication protocols. EAP uses its own start and end messages, but then carries any number of third-party messages between the client (supplicant) and access control , and provides superior cryptographic performance, critical for voice and video environments.

"Mocana's SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.  benchmark results demonstrate the superior performance of Freescale's family of PowerQUICC communications processors and the highly advanced capabilities of Mocana's Acceleration Harness technology," said Lynelle McKay, vice president and general manager of Freescale's Digital Systems Division. "Mocana's results surpass the theoretical limits of our PowerQUICC processors, and this is the kind of performance our customers require as they create new generations of communications equipment."

Mocana recently performed benchmarking tests using Freescale's 1 GHz MPC (1) (Mobile PC) A handheld or laptop computer. See handheld computer, laptop computer and Ultra-Mobile PC.

8555 PowerQUICC III processor with Acceleration Harness 2.0. Mocana achieved outstanding results. Benchmarking on the Mocana Embedded SSL Server, Mocana was able to achieve throughput performance of 480 megabits per second (unit) megabits per second - (Mbps, Mb/s) Millions of bits per second. A unit of data rate. 1 Mb/s = 1,000,000 bits per second (not 1,048,576).

E.g. Ethernet can carry 10 Mbps.
(Mbps), thereby exceeding Freescale's estimates for protocol processing overhead and exceeding performance estimates the company provides to its customers. Using the Mocana Device Security Framework with Freescale's MPC8555 PowerQUICC III processor, businesses can transfer large amounts of data faster and more efficiently than ever before.
