Mobile move.

Orange announced today it is to be the first mobile phone operator to move into the landline market in the UK with the introduction of a fixed line service for businesses.

The firm said it will undercut BT charges by up to 20pc with Orange Landline for Business which will provide a fixed line service to both existing and new Orange mobile business customers.

Kwik Sale

THE new owners of Somerfield were today reported to have hoisted the for-sale sign above its loss-making Kwik Save chain.

Talks are understood to be taking place with a number of potential buyers of the loss-making business which could be broken up and stores sold in batches. Somerfield was bought for pounds 1.1bn late last year by a consortium featuring property tycoon Robert Tchenguiz, private equity firm Apax and investment bank Barclays Capital.

Profit soars

LLOYDS TSB reported higher profits - up 10pc to pounds 3.82 bn - today but said the cost of protecting its high street banking operations against bad debts had risen by a third.
