 County to Help Emergency Crews

Verizon Wireless Cellco Partnership, doing business as Verizon Wireless, owns and operates the second largest wireless telecommunications network in the United States, based on total wireless customers. :
What: Verizon Wireless tapped its fleet of emergency mobile
equipment to respond to a request from California
Department of Forestry to boost wireless coverage for
emergency crews battling the blaze in Antelope Valley,
near Highway 395 in Northern California.

The COLT, known as "Mr. Ed," is a self-contained mobile
cell site bred specifically for rapid and short-term
network response. The COLT rides out to enhance
wireless coverage so that emergency response teams and
other Verizon Wireless customers can make more calls.

When: COLT deployed from Folsom, California on July 10, 2007

Where: Members of the news media may contact Heidi Flato at
925.324.8692 for details on the COLT's location.

Why: Verizon Wireless uses the COLT to charge up its network
when there is a natural disaster or other unplanned
event that calls for additional cell coverage and
              capacity.

Network
investment: Verizon Wireless has invested more than four billion
dollars in its wireless network in California over the
              past six years.

Reliability: In addition to its fleet of mobile equipment, Verizon
Wireless' nationwide network reliability is supported by
              industry-leading redundancy and maintenance measures.
This has proven particularly valuable during natural
              disasters and other emergencies.

              Standard Verizon Wireless network-reliability features
include battery back-up power at all facilities as well
as generators installed at all switching facilities and
              many cell site locations.
