Mobil announces CSC purchase of Data Center in Maidstone, U.K.

FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 1996--Mobil announced today the sale of its Data Center at Maidstone, England, to CSC (Computer Sciences Corporation).

CSC will use Maidstone's facilities to supply information technology services to Mobil's European businesses, under a three-year contract, with a projected value of around U.S. $55 million, to be implemented after December 1, 1996.

Under the agreement, approximately 140 people within the existing Mobil operation will transfer to CSC. Over 100 of the jobs are at the Maidstone site, the remainder being at various other European locations. Mobil will receive an undisclosed cash payment for the Maidstone building and equipment and achieve a reduction in operating costs.

Mobil's marketing and refining joint venture with BP in Europe has involved the transfer of some joint-venture information technology services to BP. This, together with Mobil's steady implementation of operating efficiencies at Maidstone, has led to a situation in which Mobil can no longer utilize Maidstone's full capacity and capabilities.
