PAUL Heiss, just back after a year spent mountain climbing mountain climbing, the practice of climbing to elevated points for sport, pleasure, or research. Also called mountaineering, it is practiced throughout the world. Types


There are three types of mountain climbing.

"Almost all of the projects I was working on ended around the same time, so it was the perfect time to do the kind of thing that takes a lot of time," Heiss said.

"From day one I wanted to be a developer," said Heiss, who has a master's in architecture from MIT MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology . "I love to create places that people like and that are financially successful."

At Champion, he'll oversee a project in San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  and the Pasadena Collection, a $50 million, 150,000-square-foot development set to open at the end of the year.

Heiss was drawn to work for Champion because he admired its mixed-use One Westside and Brentwood Place projects. "I love projects like those that are attractive architecturally, create an urban atmosphere," he said.

The Pasadena Collection consists of 80,000 square feet of residential space and an adjacent building with 53,000 square feet of office and 17,000 square feet of retail space.
