It's hard for teens to avoid exposure to drug and alcohol use in the TV shows and movies they watch--and in the songs they listen to. About one-third of the top-selling songs of 2005 mentioned alcohol or drugs, according to research presented at the American Public Health Association's annual meeting.

Songs in each type of music studied
that mention drugs or alcohol:

Rap 77%
Country 37%
R&B/Hip-hop 20%
Rock 14%
Pop 9%
