Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Testing Integrated LAN System to Transmit Vessel Information.


Tokyo, Japan, Oct 17, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (株式会社商船三井   (MOL) has announced that the company has started testing the Integrated LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  System, designed to share vessel information between vessels and offices on land. Tests of the system, developed in cooperation with Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES (Manufacturing Execution Software) Software that provides real time access to plant activities that include equipment, labor, orders and inventory. An MES integrates the data with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems so that management has complete control of ) and MOL Group MO Ship Management Co., Ltd. (MOSM) will continue through November.

The system includes the voyage data recorder Voyage Data Recorder, or VDR, is a data recording system designed for all vessels required to comply with the IMO's International Convention SOLAS Requirements (IMO Res.A.861(20)) in order to collect data from various sensors on board the vessel.  that collects some 15 items of information from the vessel such as the course and speed, and the engine data logger, which records engine rpm and other data including temperatures and pressures in various components.

The test will confirm the effectiveness of the local area network (LAN) that links various recording devices on the containership MOL Express and the portal site that receives the information on land.

MOL will also transmit sample information using Inmarsat service to examine the possibility of sharing and more effectively using vessel information.

MOL aims to develop the next-generation vessel operation and management system, gathering and utilizing information from multiple vessels and combining the MOL Group's operational and management expertise with MES's experience in developing onboard LAN systems.
