SALEM, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 1997--On June 17, Mitsubishi Silicon America (MSA (Metropolitan Service Area) An urban area with at least 50,000 people plus surrounding counties. . In the late 1980s, most of the CFCs were eliminated from use at MSA and a plan was developed to eliminate any remaining CFC use. The plan was successfully completed in early 1996.

MSA was one of 29 companies located in the Northwest recognized by the Environmental Technology Leadership Challenge, a program designed to recognized customers for the work they had done in reducing CFC usage and sponsored by Trane Oregon, a major cooling system supplier. The impetus to the Challenge was a project of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) was established by United States Congress in 1984 and dedicated to the conservation of fish, wildlife, and plants, and the habitat on which they depend. . MSA is proud to share this honor with companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Intel. MSA was one of the few firms receiving the award who had achieved full elimination of CFCs.

Mitsubishi Silicon America manufactures and markets silicon wafers, the strategic materials from which intergrated circuits and semiconductor devices are fabricated. MSA's manufacturing operations for polished and epitaxial silicon wafers are located in Salem, with marketing and sales offices in Palo Alto, Calif.
