"We represent the future of applications architectures within businesses and Mitel allows us to quickly take advantage of breakthrough voice-enabled capabilities. We evaluated other IP telephony solutions and concluded that Mitel provides the features, functionality and worldwide service coverage that we need to fulfill our customers' needs. * Speech Recognition and Speaker Authentication. iXL predicts that voice will be the most natural user interface for e-business applications. It has deployed speech recognition-enabled products such as auto attendants and personal dialers, including speaker authentication for secure access to critical data and services.

* Voice Browsing. An integrated voice and data infrastructure supports the deployment of Voice Extensible Markup Language See XML.

* Personal Digital Assistant Integration. Mitel and iXL are working together to define applications that integrate personal digital assistants with IP phones using an infrared connection. Applications to be tested include: "follow me" roaming, a directory dial application, calendar synchronization, IS support applications such as trouble ticketing, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM (Customer Relationship Management) An integrated information system that is used to plan, schedule and control the presales and postsales activities in an organization. ) features, such as Personal Information Management integration.

* A Converged Infrastructure. iXL intends to layer Ipera 2000 over its existing three-tiered IT infrastructure, taking advantage of Mitel's open Data Integrated Voice Applications architecture platform, and its support of emerging standards, such as the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP (1) (Wireless Access Point) See access point.

(2) (Wireless Application Protocol) A standard for providing cellular phones, pagers and other handheld devices with secure access to e-mail and text-based Web pages.
) and vXML. The Ipera 2000, with its interoperability and ease of application development and deployment, is an ideal platform for converged applications. Mitel's Data Integrated Voice Applications architecture will allow iXL to create applications that take advantage of real-time, Digital Signal Protocol (DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive ) services within the Ipera platform without requiring additional DSP hardware.

About The Mitel Solution

Ipera 2000 was fully integrated and clustered via Mitel's Services Digital Network (MSDN (MicroSoft Developer Network) A subscription service from Microsoft for software developers. It includes technical documentation and news, patches and fixes for existing products and beta copies of upcoming releases. ) protocol to iXL's voice network over a T1 link with a redundant SX-2000 PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN). . Mitel digital phones were replaced with their IP equivalents. Users are guaranteed the same level of service, features and functionality that is provided by an advanced PBX. iXL selected Mitel's IP phones because they provide a full directory capability and are back-lit -- an important ergonomic consideration in office environments.

Following a one-day installation of the Ipera 2000 and phones, users switched from their digital phones to the new IP phones without experiencing any compromise in features or voice quality. Mitel's IP phones offer access to all desktop features, system applications such as four-digit dialing, and centralized voice mail.

"Mitel's Ipera 2000 and Data Integrated Voice Applications architecture are designed to support emerging, strategic business processes," said Doug King, president, DataVoice. "Mitel offers a strong migration strategy from traditional telephony to Voice-over-IP, with a no-compromise approach to PBX features and functionality."
