Missile Defence is an account of how this issue played out in Canada Out In Canada is a travel magazine focused on gay and lesbian also known as LGBT tourism, exclusively within Canada. The magazine is printed twice yearly, and is distributed free in gay villages across North America. , based on interviews on and off the record with cabinet ministers, MPs, generals, and protestors. It explains how an unlikely coalition of parliamentarians, peace activists, former diplomats, experts, and ordinary citizens worked together to stop Canadian participation. Steven Staples, a vocal opponent of missile defence, explores the public positions and private motivations that led then Prime Minister Paul Martin to reverse his original decision to participate.

Steven Staples is the Director of the Ceasefire.ca project of the Polaris Institute The Polaris Institute is a Canadian think tank based in Ottawa. Its stated goal is "to help empower citizen movements towards democratic social change". It was formed in 1997 in response to its view that citizens were becoming politically disenfranchised in an age of corporate , a public interest research organization based in Ottawa.
