Mirror, mirror on the wall, on the table, or in the hall? (Easy Does It).Mirrors/are everywhere you look these days. Reflecting a look of the stars of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s; they have certainly entered the decorating scene again. Mirrors add drama, glamour, and style to any room of your house. Ordinary plates, frames, tables, and boxes take on a totally different style with the addition of a little gleam, a few paint finishes, and gold and silver leafing leaves or sheets made of silver beaten very thin. See also: Silver . Although cutting and polishing mirrors yourself may be a little difficult, it can be done with practice and time. I decided to take this part of the job to the professionals at a glass and mirror shop. They can cut and polish the edges of any shape or size that you can dream up and then you can create all kinds of mirrored objects using different combinations of shapes, sizes, and finishes. Make sure and check several shops as prices vary greatly. Just for fun and variety, I decided to mirror several different tables, but you can actually mirror just about anything you would like to have a look of shine and glitter. Don't negle ct the fabulous effect you can achieve with mirrors in your tablescapes. They reflect all the beauty of a great chandelier, crystal, and silver on the table and are easy to acquire and clean. So find a perfect spot and item to mirror and add a little shine and light to your decor this season. Here are a few ideas to get you thinking. SMALL MIRRORED TABLE WITH METAL LEGS (pictured at right) You will need: Small table with metal legs (I found this one for $24.99 at T.J. Maxx T.J. Take the table to a mirror and glass shop and have a top mirror cut and polished and 2-inch squares cut and polished to surround the apron of the table. Glue the top into place with Palmer Mirro-Mastic using a caulking gun, following the instructions on the container. Be very careful not to get glue too close to the edge, as it will seep out. Glue the 2-inch pieces around the apron of the table with the Quick Grab glue. MIRRORED TRIANGLE WALL POCKETS (also pictured on page 30) For each wall pocket, you will need: 3 isosceles triangle shaped polished mirrors with 9-inch sides and a 4-inch base, with a 1/4-inch hole drilled 1 inch from the top and centered on the 4-inch base Quick Grab clear waterproof glue Various ribbons, braids, tassels, and beads Have a mirror shop cut and polish the three isosceles triangles and drill a 1/4inch hole into one of them one inch from the base in the center of the 4-inch base. I took a pattern cut from poster board to cut by, which seemed to be helpful. Glue the three triangles together on the 9-inch sides forming a three dimensional triangle that will be hung with the point side down on a nail in the hole drilled into the back of one of the triangles. Decorate each wall pocket with ribbons, tassels, beads, and cords. Add dried flowers or fresh ones in a small vase of water placed into each wall pocket. MIRRORED DEMILUNE dem·i·lune n. A source of feeble light. 4. a. legs and straight lines (I found this one for $99 at Unfinished Furniture Showcase on County Line Road) Mirror cut and polished to fit the top of the table, 8 tapered mirrors cut and polished to fit the two front legs, 6 tapered mirrors cut and polished to fit the two back legs, 36 small mirrors 1 inch by 3 1/2 inches to go around the apron of the table Gold leafing supplies: red basecoat, adhesive size, gold leafing sheets, stiff stencil brush, antique brown finish Quick Grab clear waterproof glue Palmer Mirro-Mastic Caulking gun Masking mask·ing n. 1. Tape into place with masking tape until the glue is set. Remove the hardware from the drawer of the table. Place the 1-inch by 3 1/2-inch pieces around the apron of the table with Quick Grab glue.
