Minotaur.

Minotaur

Alluring, this minotaur, should you come upon her,
blue-outfitted, holy-grailed, complete with long black key
in one hand. It's not easy to be brave without at least some totems,
on sticks if need be, surrounding one on all sides
along with the extra dimensions required of string theory that
demand labyrinthine mathematical structures for sustenance.
I sensed her once in our woods, near the wolf tree, and suddenly
I was in full flight, down the path, beyond the meadow
and the two stately pines, veering around Rousseau's tiger that
appeared among the sunflowers, oddly reassuring, helter-skelter
up the mountain, hugging the ridge, then pressed against the large
cold flank of the moon. A very small woman, small as a ballet
dancer in a child's music box, gestured above my head, where was
floating the keyhole in a grey dank fog & receding fast. Oh my
anxiety, my future, being lost in the midst, my middle age,
flamingoes fleeing north, gods fleeing before them,
then the minotaur's shadow glimpsed once -- so cool, with the key
she'll never give over, her suave grey overcoat and enchantments,
how I desire to stroke her horns, her sensual pelt, pierce the fog
any way I can--Give it up, I, toss the key.
