Minority group honors Arkansas companies.


Several Arkansas companies List of Arkansas companies includes notable companies that are, or once were, headquartered in Arkansas.

 were honored earlier this month for their leadership in developing minority businesses in the state.

Arkansas Regional Minority Suppliers Development Council Inc., the largest and oldest business advocate group in the state, presented the awards at its "A Night of Shooting Stars" event at the Women's City Club.

Charles J. King, president of ARMSDC ARMSDC Arkansas Regional Minority Supplier Development Council , said diversity is real in Arkansas corporations. In a news release, the organization said "Arkansas corporations contribute more than $2 billion to minority business communities worldwide."

The Corporate Executive Minority Business Awards went to these companies:

* Cindy Carr of Tyson Foods Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) is an American multinational corporation based in Springdale, Arkansas, that operates in the food industry. The company is the world's largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef, and pork, and annually exports the largest percentage of beef  Inc. won the Impact Award.

* SBC (1) (SBC Communications Inc., San Antonio, TX, www.sbc.com) A large, national telecommunications company that grew from a multitude of local and regional companies, including Southwestern Bell, Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell, into a single, unified brand by 2002.  Communications won the Corporate Community Service Award.

* The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) is a state government organization in charge of maintaining the transportation infrastructure of the U.S. state of Arkansas.  won the Government/Public Service Award.

* Enterprise Rent-a-Car won the Corporation of the Year Award for companies with fewer than 2,000 employees.

* Entergy Arkansas won the Corporation of the Year Award for companies with between 2,000 and 5,000 employees.

* Alltel Corp. won the Corporation of the Year Award for companies with more than 5,000 employees.

* Wal-Mart Stores Inc. won the Corporate Leadership Award of Excellence.
