Minister Poposki meets German counterpart Westerwelle.
At the meeting between Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki and German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Guido Westerwelle, within the framework of Minister Poposki's 2-day working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany on 19-20 March, both countries' dedication to promoting bilateral relations in all areas of shared interest was reconfirmed. Minister Poposki expressed gratitude for the overall support, especially as regards the technical cooperation and financial aid that Germany has been extending to the Republic of Macedonia continuously. He informed his host about the reforms and contribution of the Republic of Macedonia to the global peace and stability through its participation in the international NATO mission ISAF in Afghanistan and said he expected strong political support from Germany for the open-door policy and the imminent admission of Macedonia into the Alliance. As regards the EU integration, Minister Poposki welcomed the recently commenced accession dialogue, pointing out it does not represent a replacement, but a bridge toward the negotiations for full-fledged membership of the Republic of Macedonia of the European Union.
Minister Poposki met also Christoph Heusgen, foreign and security policy advisor to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Members of the German Bundestag and representatives of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Also, he delivered a speech at the Foundation of Science and Politics on the subject "The Republic of Macedonia on its Way to NATO and the EU."
