Minimizing BaS[O.sub.4] scale formation in ECF bleach plants.

Application: These results will help mills reduce bleach plant deposits.

Barium sulfate barium sulfate: see barite.  (BaS[O.sub.4] deposits in the bleach plant can be both troublesome and costly. Barium enters the mill as a trace component of the wood chips fed to the digester di·gest·er

2. Chemistry A vessel in which substances are softened or decomposed, usually for further processing.

. Mills that use wood high in barium content typically suffer from these deposits. Many of these mills converted from elemental chlorine bleaching to elemental chlorine free (ECF (Enhanced Connectivity Facilities) IBM software that allows DOS PCs to query and download data from mainframes and issue mainframe commands. It also allows printer output to be directed from the PC to the mainframe. ) bleaching.

This study modeled barium sulfate solubility using a general chemical equilibrium chemical equilibrium, state of balance in which two opposing reversible chemical reactions proceed at constant equal rates with no net change in the system. For example, when hydrogen gas, H2, and iodine gas, I2  solver. The results show that mills with high barium inputs cannot eliminate barium sulfate deposits, but mills can reduce the deposits by limiting the sulfate sulfate, chemical compound containing the sulfate (SO4) radical. Sulfates are salts or esters of sulfuric acid, H2SO4, formed by replacing one or both of the hydrogens with a metal (e.g., sodium) or a radical (e.g., ammonium or ethyl).  input and by controlling excursions of temperature and pH in the [D.sub.0] stage.
