Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of fault and service-level management software, today announced that its Netcool(R)/Internet Service Monitors(TM) (Netcool/ISMs(TM)) Version 2.0 have been selected to manage the growing Web hosting services offered by MindSpring Enterprises Inc. (Nasdaq: MSPG MSPG Mor Strioch Pian Gar (gaming)

), a leading national Internet service provider Internet service provider (ISP)

Company that provides Internet connections and services to individuals and organizations. For a monthly fee, ISPs provide computer users with a connection to their site (see data transmission), as well as a log-in name and password.
. MindSpring currently supports approximately 60,000 virtual domain hosting accounts.

"We will be using Netcool/ISMs to manage the availability and performance of our customer's Web sites as well as to monitor our Web registration servers and Web-based internal support systems," said Allen Thomas, vice president of enterprise management systems for MindSpring. "The ability to distribute the Monitors across the Internet and measure performance from multiple locations efficiently was very important for us."

The Netcool/ISMs 2.0 suite collects performance and availability data from 18 Internet protocols and services. These services including Web-site hosting, e-mail, file transfer, directory services, news, and security. The architecture of the Netcool/ISM suite is robust and highly scalable, enabling service providers and corporations to significantly improve the manageability of their Internet connections, corporate intranets, and extranets.

"MindSpring is a very customer-focused ISP (1) See in-system programmable.

, so the ability to view the network from the customer's perspective is imperative for us," continued Thomas. "The Netcool TRANSX TRANSX Transport Cross Section (NJOY/ENDF)  Monitor does this in a highly efficient manner. TRANSX can dial in, send and retrieve an e-mail, surf a few Web sites, log off and then send the aggregated performance data back to the central Netcool console. By regularly executing TRANSX from distributed points across the Internet, we obtain a comprehensive, real-time picture of the service our customers are receiving."

"MindSpring has been remarkably successful in maintaining high customer satisfaction levels while pursuing an aggressive growth strategy," said Greg Brown, chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Micromuse. "The efficient performance of their network operations center See NOC.

is a key component of that success. We are pleased that MindSpring has chosen to expand its Netcool implementation to include Micromuse's latest Netcool/ISM release."

The Netcool suite supports more than 120 off-the-shelf software interfaces that collect management data from a wide variety of systems and protocols. The data is rapidly processed and filtered by an in-memory database called the Netcool ObjectServer(TM). The Netcool application allows operators to build views of services in realtime, helping them manage networks more efficiently. Because it is scalable and deploys rapidly, the Netcool business model allows service providers to expand their networks as their markets grow.
