The article "Ketones Ketones
Poisonous acidic chemicals produced by the body when fat instead of glucose is burned for energy. Breakdown of fat occurs when not enough insulin is present to channel glucose into body cells.

 to the Rescue" (SN: 12/13/03, p. 376) describes attempts to use ketones as a substitute for glucose when it's unavailable to the brain because converted fats can't penetrate the brain. Wouldn't it be simpler to feed or inject glucose directly?
