Millennium Advisor Enhanced to Scan Embedded and Dual Format Spreadsheets for Year 2000 Compliance.

CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 1998--Enhancements to the software package Millennium Advisor for spreadsheets were announced today by cellutions, incorporated to extend and deepen the product capabilities.

Millennium Advisor locates and scans the spreadsheets utilized in daily operations to make decisions, track orders, etc. across a wide variety of formats and PC desktop and server systems. The program identifies data, formulas or other situations where incorrect results may be obtained due to assumptions involving whether a two-digit year entry refers to a year in the 20th or 21st century. PCs are not immune from the "Year 2000 Problem" or "Millennium Bug" often attributed to mainframe systems.

The new release builds on the previous capability to scan Microsoft Excel, Lotus 1-2-3, Corel Quattro Pro, Microsoft Works and other popular spreadsheets. Now, supported spreadsheets contained in word processing documents (such as business reports and proposals) developed in Microsoft Word and Corel WordPerfect are optionally located and scanned. Also, spreadsheets developed in Excel 97 and saved in a dual format to be compatible with earlier versions are scanned for differences in date interpretation.

"A significant issue we found in our discussions with companies has been the differences between Excel 95 and Excel 97 due to the change in the date windowing," said Donald Flannery, President of cellutions, incorporated. "We enhanced Millennium Advisor to warn of issues where Excel 5.0 or Excel 95 users accessing a spreadsheet created in Excel 97 could see different results." He continued, "The new capability to find and scan spreadsheets embedded as 'objects' in word processing files helps assure a complete analysis of all the spreadsheets being used in your organization. Spreadsheets that have been created in documents from programs such as Word and WordPerfect may exist only inside those files, which may be key reports to management, shareholders and regulators."

Millennium Advisor supports PCs running DOS 3.1 or later, Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 95/98, and Windows NT 3.51 or later. No spreadsheet programs are required to read spreadsheet files. Scanning capability for all supported spreadsheets is included and dynamically invoked. Further enhancements are under development to help companies cope with the impact of "Y2K" on their business.
