MSDE, a new lightweight version of Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, is a free workgroup product that enables small healthcare practices to save money on their practice management system since it does not require the purchase of SQL Server or client access licenses.

MSDE, a fully SQL Server-compatible data engine for building desktop and shared solutions, is designed for practices with five or fewer workstations and a two-gigabyte or smaller database.
