Military satellite technology makes for improved sorter.

When the Virto Group, Spain's largest vegetable processor, tried out the frozen version of the Buhler Sortex K optical sorter at its Ultracongelados de Cortes Cortes (kôr`tĕz, Span. kōr`tās), representative assembly in Spain. The institution originated (12th–13th cent.) in various Spanish regions with the Christian reconquest; until the 19th cent.  division, the results were so positive that the company decided to have 15 machines installed this year.

An order of this scale is rare in the industry. But the people at Buhler's optical sorting division see it as typical of the interest in the Sortex K that has driven Buhler Sortex to step up production to meet increased demand. What makes the K unique, according to according to

"This 'spy in the sky' technology, allied to the Buhler Sortex K's color and PROfile shape recognition capability, ensures the highest possible levels of defect defect - bug  removal with minimum loss of good product. The result is an extremely short pay back time on the initial investment."

"We were so pleased with the sort quality and product recovery of the K, that we decided to roll out machines across all our companies," beamed Antonio Baldero, group engineer at Virto. "We process an exceptionally wide range of vegetables and the Buhler Sortex K is able to make grade on all of them in one pass. This is something we were not always able to do previously."
