Today at Networld+Interop, Milestone Software & Systems introduced the GeNMS Application Builder, its advanced, easy-to-use programming tool for developing cross-platform Network Management Systems (NMS) applications. This enables vendors to provide network administrators with devices which fit into any network management environment, providing the administrators with ability to choose the best equipment for their needs without NMS platform restrictions.

The GeNMS Application Builder is a generic software tool which enables the creation of a single state-of-the-art NMS application that can run under any NMS platform, operating system and Graphic User Interface (GUI). This flexibility allows integration of any data communications or telecommunications network device into any network, eliminating the need to develop multiple NMS applications for different NMS platforms and operating systems and allowing them to be easily ported to a wide range of NMS platforms and operating systems

Milestone's President and one of the company's founders, Raz Rafaeli said, "When we started to develop our own NMS applications, we realized how limited the market was for NMS development tools. We took our own experience in NMS development and subsequently developed the Application Builder to answer a very important need in the market - a multi-platform, operating-system independent framework for the quick and easy development of NMS applications."

GeNMS Application Builder is based on Milestone's own, unique GeNMS Object Oriented Design (OOD) technology. The technology is a well- defined layered environment, based on the SunScript (Tcl/Tk) scripting language which is supported by SUN Microsystems Inc. Milestone enriched the Tcl/Tk scripts with numerous powerful commands and mechanisms specially designed for creating NMS applications and tools.

Some of the modules comprising the GeNMS technology are:

--NMS platform - HP/OV, HP/Win, IBM/NetView 6000,

SunNet Manager, etc.

--Operating System - various flavors of UNIX, Windows 95/NT

--Management protocol - SNMPv1, SNMPv2, CMIP etc.

--GUI engine - Displays the user interface of the application

natively to the Operating system (X Windows, MS Windows, etc.)

--Data Base - supports different standard and proprietary databases

--The kernel - includes built-in mechanisms for: polling,

scheduling, messaging, trap handling, registration, etc.

The Application Builder pricing for UNIX is $10,000 per module and $5000 per module for Windows, plus royalties. Several software packages are available now, and additional packages will be available for delivery in Q4, 1997.
