Miles Davis' 75th Birthday is Celebrated in a Year-Long Campaign From Sony Legacy.

Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music, has announced several new additions to its Grammy Award-winning 'Miles Davis Series.' The titles arrive to coincide with what would have been jazz legend Miles Davis' 75th birthday on May 26, 2001.

Comprised of eight separate CD projects, this program not only explores the rich 30-year archive of music that Davis recorded during his primary tenure with Columbia, but also on one title ("The Essential Miles Davis Noun 1. Miles Davis - United States jazz musician; noted for his trumpet style (1926-1991)

") expands to cover more than four decades of recording (1945-1986) with selections from the Savoy, Capitol, Prestige, Blue Note, Columbia and Warner Bros BROS Brothers

. catalogs. The double-disc The Essential Miles Davis arrives in stores on May 15th.

On June 26th, a completely unreleased live concert from Columbia's vaults will finally see the light of day. The double-disc "Miles Davis Live At The Fillmore East (March 7, 1970): It's About That Time" documents two shows that were recorded on New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of

, Jack DeJohnette Jack DeJohnette (b. 1942) is an American jazz drummer, pianist, and composer.

DeJohnette was born in Chicago, Illinois. Besides the drums, he studied the piano, which he plays on several recordings.

September will bring the long-awaited "The Complete In A Silent Way Sessions." This 3-CD boxed set traces Davis' development of his first expanded electric band, including accompaniment from Shorter, Corea, Holland, DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Tony Williams and Joe Zawinul. Liner notes by reissue producer Bob Belden will feature interviews with all surviving members.

In addition, on April 17, 2001, Columbia/Legacy will release five expanded catalog titles. These include "'Round About Midnight" and "Milestones" (both with bonus tracks), "Miles Davis At Newport 1958" (which restores the concert to its full length), "Jazz At The Plaza" (first time on CD), and a single-disc compilation from the recent double Grammy Award-winning boxed set, "Miles Davis & John Coltrane: The Best of the Complete Columbia Recordings."

Born in 1926, in Alton, Illinois, Miles Dewey Davis, Jr. went on to become the most influential jazz musician of the second half of the century. He died on September 25, 1991. For more information on Miles Davis visit miles-davis.net.
