The college recognises there is no single answer to the complex issue of rising intervention rates. This forum will provide an opportunity for all parties to debate the issues, and gain an appreciation of the ideas and actions professional and consumer groups may take to slow this trend and if possible reverse it.

College of Midwives' staff member Norma Campbell has also discussed with me the draft technical report on Group B streptococcal infection Infection with Group B Streptococcus (GBS), also known as Streptococcus agalactiae, can cause serious illness and sometimes death, especially in newborn infants and the elderly.  and the draft consensus statement on the prevention of early onset neonatal Group B streptococcal infection. These draft documents have been circulated to NZNO's midwifery reference group for comment and to assist me in compiling NZNO's submission, due this month.

All NZNO midwives are invited to be parties to the reference group. If you wish on the circulation list, please forward details to me at NZNO, PO Box 4102, Christchurch or email to Susannet@nzno.org.nz.
