The program provides cash and other incentives, including a free OMNIFiber adapter to Microtest's existing and new customers who trade up to the most advanced cable certification tool available, OMNIScanner.

Introduced in June 1998, the innovative OMNIScanner certifies premise cabling against existing Categories 5, 5E, 6 and 7. It delivers the accuracy of a network analyzer A specialized hardware device or software in a desktop or laptop computer that captures packets transmitted in a network for routine inspection and problem detection. Also called a "sniffer," "packet sniffer," "packet analyzer," "traffic analyzer" and "protocol analyzer," the network  and the ability to measure newly required tests--such as ELFEXT (Equal Level FEXT) A calculation that normalizes the results of a FEXT measurement, because it takes attenuation into account. OMNIScanner lists for $5,495 (US).

For its installed base of PentaScanner(R) 350 and PentaScanner + customers, Microtest is offering a free OMNIFiber Kit for trade-ins of these PentaScanners when OMNIScanner is purchased. Customers who own older PentaScanner units with RJ45 connectors may migrate to OMNIScanner by sending in their existing unit and receiving $500 cash back.

A third option is being offered to owners of select competitors' Category 5 cable testers A cable tester is an electronic device used to verify the electrical connections in a cable or other wired assembly. Generally a cable tester consists of:
  1. A source of electrical current,
  2. A volt meter,
 who choose to migrate to OMNIScanner and trade in their existing products. Those customers will receive a free OMNIFiber Kit after trading in the competitor's scanner and providing Microtest with an OMNIScanner proof-of-purchase.

Customers interested in participating in the trade up program for OMNIScanners purchased between now and Dec. 31, 1999 must submit claims to Microtest on or before February 15, 2000. Full details and downloadable user forms are available at http://www.microtest.com/omniscanner/.
