Microtest's newly developed DiscZerver(TM) technology drives three versions of new Microtest products, all of which provide a platform-independent solution for CD- and DVD-ROM DVD-ROM: see digital versatile disc.

a complete, "virtual tower in a box" CD-ROM networking solution. All the hardware and software needed for fast caching and sharing CD/DVD-ROMs is contained in a box small enough to sit on top of a desk or workstation.

Two versions of DiscPortVT are available: one includes a hard drive capable of holding up to seven cached CDs; the other can hold up to fourteen. Both DiscPortVT models are scalable in design, allowing the connection of up to seven SCSI SCSI

DiscPort2 is the next generation CD-ROM thin server for businesses, departments and workgroups interested in moving to the next generation of their existing DiscPort product or who have an installed network that includes attached hard drives. DiscPort2 is the plug-and-play version that allows connection of up to seven SCSCI devices.

DiscZerver, the integration model, is designed to fit easily into a standard tower configured with up to seven SCSI devices. DiscZerver is the choice for tower integrators and OEMs who want to offer their customers a high-speed CD-ROM networking solution with a variety of storage combinations.

All three thin servers support both 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps Ethernet networks and provide universal access to all of the popular operating systems in use today, including Novell NetWare(R), Windows NT(TM), Unix and IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  OS/2. The products feature fast caching of CD-ROMs to hard drives, improving performance by emulating drive speeds up to 66X. DiscPortVT comes equipped with an internal hard drive; DiscPort2 and DiscZerver allow caching to attached hard drives.

A unique feature of this new family of products is the ability to support simultaneous imaging and access, allowing uninterrupted functionality. All three products also offer browser-based access, DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.

"This new selection of high-performance CD/DVD-ROM thin servers meets virtually every workgroup networking need," said Robert Vandevoort, managing director-international. "With the power of DiscZerver technology, these products are easy to use, fast and more flexible than anything else available."

DiscPortVT, DiscZerver and DiscPort2 will be available May, 1998. All product kits come complete with hardware and software, user guide and companion CD containing remote load utility, FTP FTP
