Business & Technology Editors

COMDEX The former, premier computer trade show in the U.S. Although it grew into an end user event, it was originally created for dealers and distributors (it was the COMputer Dealers EXposition).  Fall 2000

NORTH BRANFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2000

Microtech International, Inc., an industry leader of digital photography and connectivity solutions, today announced a new offering for the digital photography market, the FireWire CameraMate(TM).

Using this new high-speed reader/writer, professional digital photojournalists can now transfer high-resolution images without the need for tethering the camera to a workstation. This speeds up and simplifies image transfer and frees the camera to continue taking pictures. With a 1GB Microdrive(TM) installed, an entire day's worth of high resolution photographs can be transferred to the host in a matter of a few minutes.

The FireWire CameraMate is an IEEE-1394 based digital film reader/writer compatible with all CompactFlash(TM) Type I and II cards including the IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Microdrive(TM). Supporting a data transfer rate of up to 5MB per second, this reader is the ideal companion to all FireWire-equipped Macs and PCs.

The FireWire CameraMate supports IEEE-1394 connections of 100, 200 and 400 Mbps, operating as a leaf node device. Power is supplied to the device by an intelligent power management circuit capable of detecting power on the FireWire bus, or if required from the SCSI SCSI
