Microsoft system deployed by Fiat.


Fiat Auto (www.fiat.com), which has been working with Microsoft's Automotive Business Unit (www.microsoft.com/automotive) since July 2004, has launched the first product to result from this collaboration: Blue & Me, a communications and entertainment system that's primarily based on Windows Mobile The Windows platform from Microsoft for handheld devices, including PDAs, cellphones and Portable Media Centers. In fact, the system, which is being supplied by Magneti Marelli Magneti Marelli Holding S.p.A. is a subsidiary of Fiat Group and leader in developing and manufacturing systems, modules and high-technology components for the automotive industry with 25,000 employees and a turnover of 4 billion euro in 2005. , that is adaptable to various cell phones, digital media players, and other mobile devices. As its name implies, the system utilizes Bluetooth for integration with the car and a mobile phone. It is a voice-activated system that also deploys steering wheel control buttons and a display on the instrument panel. There is a USB port A USB socket on a computer or peripheral device into which a USB cable is plugged. See USB.  in the glovebox of a vehicle that can be attached to MP3 readers or memory devices. The system is said to be compatible with products from a number of companies and to be designed such that upgrades are easily achieved. Future plans call for the implementation of a simple navigation system A GPS-based electronic system in a car or truck that provides a real time map of the vehicle's current location as well as step-by-step directions to a programmed destination. See GPS and vehicle tracking. . The system will be available on Fiat, Lancia, and Alfa Romeo Alfa Romeo is an Italian automobile manufacturer founded in 1910. Alfa Romeo has been a part of the Fiat Group since 1986. The company was originally known as A.L.F.A.  vehicles the second quarter of '06. None of these vehicles, however, are available in the U.S.
