Microsoft Awards Cluster Server Certification to Mylex DAC960SF and DAC960SX RAID Controllers; Mylex Exceeds Minimum Requirements Set by Microsoft.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 30, 1998--Mylex Corporation (Nasdaq:MYLX), the world's leading RAID controller vendor in the non-captive network systems marketplace, today announced that Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT) has awarded two Mylex external RAID controllers with Microsoft Cluster Server certification. Mylex's two products include the DAC960SF, a Fibre Channel-to-Ultra SCSI host-based RAID controller, and the DAC960SX, an Ultra SCSI-to-Ultra SCSI host-based RAID controller. As part of the certification, both controllers are now authorized to carry the Microsoft Designed for Windows NT PC 97 and PC 98 logos.

Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS), also commonly referred to as "Wolfpack," is the server clustering component found in the Windows NT, Enterprise Server network operating system. Mylex's certification enables Microsoft VARs, systems integrators, corporate end-users and server system OEMs to deploy Mylex products with confidence in MSCS environments.

In order to pass MSCS certification, an external RAID controller must support either the SCSI protocol on a shared SCSI bus or must support a Fibre Channel loop which connects two servers with each other and the disk storage devices. The controller also needs to support a key SCSI feature called "reserve release," a high-availability feature which enables two servers to access shared disk resources and to transfer control of the disks if a server fails.

Both controllers are now shipping. The DAC960SX, which is available through server OEMs, distributors, VARs and systems integrators, carries an estimated MSRP starting at $3,296.00. The DAC960SF is currently only available to server OEMs.
