, announced today that its Integrated Products Group has introduced a new 27-line source/sink regulator designed to provide correct reference voltages and bias currents for low voltage differential (hardware) Low Voltage Differential - (LVD) A method of driving SCSI cables that will be formalised in the SCSI-3 specifications. LVD uses less power than the current differential drive (HVD), is less expensive and will allow the higher speeds of Ultra-2 SCSI. LVD requires 3.  SCSI SCSI

Designated the LX5261(TM), the new regulator is compliant with SCSI SPI-2 (Ultra2), SPI-3 (Ultra 160), and SPI-4 (Ultra320) specification standards used in high speed data transmission applications including LVD See LVDS.

"Our LX5261 provides a cost competitive pin-for-pin alternative to leading regulators currently available in this market," said Paul Pickle, marketing vice president at Microsemi's Integrated Products Group.

The LX5261 provides two independent 1.75V and 0.75V fixed regulated outputs, each capable of sourcing/sinking 200mA, plus a buffered 1.3V output for DIFSENS signaling. On-chip trimming of the internal voltage enables precise output voltages, typically +/- 1% of its specified value. Thermal shutdown and current limiting Current limiting is the practice in electrical or electronic circuits of imposing an upper limit on the current that may be delivered to a load with the purpose of protecting the circuit generating or transmitting the current from harmful effects due to a short-circuit or similar  are also integrated on chip.

The LX5261 is available in an industry standard 16-pin SOIC (Small Outline IC) A small-dimension, plastic, rectangular, surface mount chip package that uses gull-wing pins extending outward. See gull-wing lead, SOJ and chip package.  plastic package, priced at $0.94 in 10K quantities. Samples and production quantities are available immediately.
