The GoBook is considered an 'ultraportable' because of its thin and light design, weighing only 4.5 lbs and measuring only 1.35 inches in height when running off the internal battery. On the road, the GoBook II is fueled by an internal battery that fits in the media bay. In addition, there is an optional battery that attaches to the base of the system. Combined, these batteries provide up to 5 hours of usage. Usage varies depending on the applications running and a number of other factors, but even so, using both batteries, the GoBook offers longer battery life than many notebook systems available today. According to C/NET, "With the second battery attached, the GoBook is transformed from an ultraportable to a full-sized, full-featured notebook."

The GoBook II can be customized with up to 96MB of RAM, a 3.1 GB hard drive, a 56K modem, or a number of other upgrades through Micron's build-to-order program. All GoBook systems ship with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98 software and Microsoft Office Small Business Edition (application) Microsoft Office Small Business Edition - (SBE) Editions of Microsoft Office 97, 2003, and probably other versions, targetted at small businesses. Small Business Edition includes Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook with Business  as well as a Micron Power (sm) limited warranty Limited warranty
