Integrated Solution Helps Service Providers Streamline

Operational Support Systems and Enhance Customer Support

Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of service and business assurance software, today announced the integration of its Netcool(R)/OMNIbus(TM) solution with Portal's Infranet(TM) software applications.

The integration enables IT operations and customer support teams to assess the business implications on customers, service availability and service level agreements (SLAs) when faults occur throughout the network.

The integration between the Netcool/OMNIbus application and Infranet is facilitated through a Netcool(R)/Impact(TM) Data Source Adapter (Netcool/Impact DSA (1) (Directory Server Agent) An X.500 program that looks up the address of a recipient in a Directory Information Base (DIB), also known as white pages. It accepts requests from the Directory User Agent (DUA) counterpart in the workstation. ). When a problem occurs and is detected by Netcool/OMNIbus, the Netcool/Impact application can query the customer database to discover which customers have been affected. When the customer associated with the problem has been identified, Netcool/Impact will notify Infranet that a service-affecting event has occurred. Netcool/Impact will then send a follow-up event to Infranet when the problem has been resolved. Infranet will then calculate the effect that the network event had on specific services to enable customer care teams to proactively manage SLAs and make adjustments to billing statements.

"Service providers are continually striving to be more proactive when managing service levels and customer satisfaction," said Jim Frey This article is about the Major League Baseball manager. "The integration of the Netcool suite with Infranet will help our mutual customers understand the factors that affect QoS, while enabling them to minimize billing disputes and accelerate collection processes."

"Micromuse's Netcool suite and Infranet are highly complementary applications and we are pleased to be working together to offer our mutual customers an integrated OSS Oss (ôs), city (1994 pop. 62,141), North Brabant prov., S Netherlands; chartered 1399. "The integration puts critical information about network availability and performance into the hands of customer support teams, allowing them to manage SLAs more effectively and ultimately improve customer satisfaction to reduce customer churn."
