Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of fault and service-level management software, today announced that its Netcool/OMNIbus(TM) application has been certified Tivoli Ready as a flexible multi-technology network monitoring The term network monitoring describes the use of a system that constantly monitors a computer network for slow or failing systems and that notifies the network administrator in case of outages via email, pager or other alarms.  interface for Tivoli Enterprise(TM) Solutions. Micromuse has developed Netcool for Tivoli, a Tivoli Plus module, which seamlessly integrates with the Tivoli Framework providing centralized usability, management, and administration of a Netcool/OMNIbus installation, including Netcool/OMNIbus, Netcool Gateways and Netcool Probes.

Integration between the Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC), which collects network-wide event data from centrally managed computer systems, software applications, and databases, and Netcool/ OMNIbus event management data from broadband, voice, and Internet network infrastructures, provides enterprise users with complete control of their entire IT services. In addition, Micromuse is pleased to announce that it is a Team Tivoli Partner.

The Tivoli certified Netcool/OMNIbus provides a tight integration between the Netcool suite and the Tivoli Framework that will minimize costs associated with complex, rapidly growing networks and allow the customer to focus more attention to their core business. The Netcool suite's highly adaptable architecture, supporting off-the-shelf interfaces to more than 150 management systems, devices and protocols, will allow Tivoli customers to reduce ongoing costs of managing network expansion and technological change. The Netcool suite's ability to easily scale and deploy rapidly further accentuates this ability to readily enable enterprises and service providers to expand their networks as their businesses grow.

"Combining the reach and depth of Micromuse's Netcool in network and service-level management with Tivoli's strengths in managing applications and systems across the broader infrastructure is a natural fit," said Dennis Drogseth, Director, Enterprise Management Associates. "Off-the-shelf integration will help to accelerate rollouts for mutual Tivoli/Micromuse customers interested in seriously supporting the true breadth of critical business services today - which must include Internet-related services, IP and voice, as well as significant business applications.

"Tivoli customers require service assurance and network management solutions that functionally perform together and are off-the-shelf compatible," said Bill Potratz, Tivoli's manager, Worldwide ISV (Independent Software Vendor) A person or company that develops software. The Netcool suite consists of more than 150 Probes and Monitors. Netcool Probes are passive supersets of code that collect events from SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  and non-SNMP management data sources, APIs, databases, network devices, log files, and other utilities. Netcool Monitors are lightweight applications that simulate network users to determine response times and availability of Internet, LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. Together the data is rapidly processed and filtered by the Netcool ObjectServer, an in-memory database A database that keeps all active records in main memory rather than on disk. Accessing in-memory records is considerably faster than retrieving them from the disk. . In addition, Netcool Internet Service Monitors (TM) (ISMs) allows network operators to build views of services in real-time, helping them manage networks more efficiently.
