), a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, today announced the new PIC18F45J10 family, which are some of the fastest 8-bit microcontrollers in the world to provide 32 Kbytes of Flash program memory in 28-pin packages. This family offers 40 MHz performance at 3V, and analog-to-digital (ADC (1) See A/D converter.

), comparator, USART See UART. , SPI, I2C(TM) and PWM peripherals at a 30 percent cost reduction over 5V microcontrollers. These features make the PIC18F45J10 family ideal for a broad range of cost-sensitive applications in markets such as consumer electronics, appliances, medical and industrial.

Designers of cost-sensitive consumer applications, ranging from appliances to consumer electronics, are demanding higher performance and reduced costs from their 8-bit microcontrollers. The four PIC18F45J10/44J10/25J10/24J10 devices provide a significant reduction in both cost (30 percent lower) and operating voltage (3V) while maintaining 40 MHz performance levels -- something 5V microcontrollers just can't do. In addition, Microchip offers the free MPLAB(R) IDE Integrated Development Environment See IDE.

, which provides low-risk development and shortened design cycles by enabling a seamless migration path to a wide range of code-compatible PIC(R) microcontrollers.

"With this new family of 8-bit microcontrollers, Microchip has completed the migration path of our 3V portfolio from 28 to 80 pins and from 16 Kbytes to 128 Kbytes of Flash," said Mitch Obolsky, vice president of Microchip's Advanced Microcontroller Architecture Division. "Customers can now enjoy the benefits of 3V operation at twice the speed and a substantially reduced price over 5V microcontrollers."

The PIC18F45J10 family is general purpose by design, and can be used in an extremely wide range of markets and applications. Some examples include consumer (consumer electronics) and industrial (instrumentation).

Additional key features of the PIC18F45J10 family include:

--16 or 32 Kbytes of Flash and 1 Kbyte of RAM

--10-bit ADC with 10 or 13 channels

--One Enhanced Capture Compare PWM (ECCP ECCP European Centre for Conflict Prevention

) and up to two standard CCPs

--Up to two SPI and two Master I2C serial communication ports

--One enhanced USART and two comparators

--One 8-bit and two 16-bit timers

Development Tools

In addition to maintaining compatibility with Microchip's universal MPLAB IDE, the PIC18F45J10 microcontrollers are supported by the MPLAB C18 C compiler, MPLAB ICD ICD International Classification of Diseases (of the World Health Organization); intrauterine contraceptive device.
