MicroStrategy Signs OEM Agreement with MERANT DataDirect; -- OEM Partnership Enables Rapid Deployment of Business Intelligence Applications --.
MCLEAN, Va. & ROCKVILLE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 2001
MERANT (NASDAQ:MRNT; LSE: MRN) and MicroStrategy(R) Incorporated (NASDAQ:MSTR) today announced that MicroStrategy is embedding MERANT's DataDirect(R) ODBC drivers into the MicroStrategy 7(TM) platform for business intelligence. The agreement enables MicroStrategy to provide customers with seamless data connectivity from MicroStrategy 7 to the latest versions of industry-leading databases including Oracle, Informix and Sybase. With this agreement, MicroStrategy significantly simplifies the use of its product while giving customers extended information access capabilities for easier and faster system deployments.
"We selected MERANT's DataDirect group based on their market leadership in database connectivity middleware, along with the expertise they demonstrated through their development and technical support teams," said Sid Banerjee, vice president of product marketing at MicroStrategy Incorporated. "By bundling DataDirect ODBC drivers with our platform, we simplify database access for our customers, and enhance their out-of-box experience with MicroStrategy. One of our goals is to help our customers be more successful with our product by enabling rapid deployment of business intelligence solutions."
"We are excited to be the vendor of choice to provide ODBC data connectivity for MicroStrategy," said Eric Egertson, vice president of OEM business development for MERANT's DataDirect group. "MicroStrategy is a leading platform provider in business intelligence. By including DataDirect technology within its software platform, MicroStrategy delivers more value to its customers."
This relationship benefits both MicroStrategy's customers and its technical staff. In the past, MicroStrategy worked with many ODBC drivers from different vendors to provide connectivity across multiple databases. Now, by bundling MERANT DataDirect technology, MicroStrategy's development and support teams can work with a single vendor for all of their database connectivity requirements, providing consistent functionality and behavior across all databases.
MicroStrategy 7 is the scalable business intelligence platform built specifically for the Internet, providing a pure-Web architecture for reporting and analysis on today's growing multi-terabyte data warehouses. DataDirect Connect(R) ODBC is a suite of cross-platform ODBC drivers that leverage native wire protocols and database vendor middleware to deliver reliable data connectivity to all major databases at the highest levels of efficiency and performance available today.
DataDirect Connect ODBC drivers for MicroStrategy platform are automatically included with the purchase of MicroStrategy 7 software.
