Micro Memory Introduces CoSine FPGA PMC Compute Nodes.


Based on the Xilinx V-4 LX200, LX160, and SX55 devices, the new MM-71xx series of Compute Nodes provide the most FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- Combining CoSine[TM], the industry's most powerful preconfigured Set up ahead of time. It implies that the device or software application has been modified to suit the customer or situation. See ghosting server.  FPGA infrastructure, with the largest Xilinx([R]) V-4[R] devices on the flexible, modular PMC form factor, Micro Memory([R]) (www.micromemory.com) today introduced the MM-7105, MM-7110, and MM-7115 CoSine FPGA PMC Compute Nodes. These ground-breaking products include significant industry firsts including:

* the first PMCs to offer over 89K FPGA Slices, with certain configurations exceeding 156K FPGA Slices,

* the first PMCs to include over 600 Xtreme[R] DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  Slices,

* the shortest possible customer development cycles based on the optional CoSine preconfigured FPGA infrastructure,

* Each FPGA is equipped with additional Platform Flash to store secondary bitstreams for Reconfigurable Processing, and

* Rugged Convection Cooled and Rugged Conduction Cooled models are readily available.

Targeting applications such as Synthetic Aperture and Phased Array Radar, Software Defined Radio A wireless terminal (phone, PDA, etc.) that is reconfigurable via software. It enables wireless devices to be easily updated to new or later versions of the air interface and allows multiple interfaces to be supported. , Signal Intelligence, and semiconductor and medical imaging, the MM-7105, MM-7110, and MM-7115 utilize V-4 FPGAs for DSP operations such as FFTs, filters, and image or data compression to provide significant performance benefits over conventional DSPs or general purpose embedded RISC processors.

The MM-7105 is the first rugged PMC to include the powerful V-4 LX200 FPGA from Xilinx, while the MM-7110 is the first PMC to combine the LX200 with a SX55, and the MM-7115 is the first PMC to combine the LX200 with a LX160. These configurations provide customers with the optimal platforms for logic or DSP intensive applications in the flexible, modular PMC (PCI Mezzanine Card (hardware) PCI Mezzanine Card - (PMC) A family of low profile mezzanine cards for VMEbus, Futurebus+, desktop computers and other computer systems with logical and electrical layers based on the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) specification. The MM-71xx PMCs can be utilized on PowerPC([R]) and x86 Single Board Computers, Altivec([R]) DSP boards, A/D converters, graphic engines or any carrier that has a PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) site.

 DMA engine, and multi-ported DDR (Double Data Rate) Refers to an SDRAM memory chip that increases performance by doubling the effective data rate of the frontside bus. For more details, see SDRAM.

. Unlike other solutions which only provide IP in the form of individual cores that require customers to perform complicated integration, the CoSine IP is optionally offered as a totally preconfigured solution with fixed IP placement and timing constraints to minimize customer development efforts.

The CoSine Development Kit includes a VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) A hardware description language (HDL) used to design electronic systems at the component, board and system level. VHDL allows models to be developed at a very high level of abstraction.  wrapper with well defined interfaces, extensive VHDL test benches and host system diagnostics in C for complete verification of custom User Programmable Logic (UPL) implementations. A demo program with a fully functional 1K FFT implementation is also provided with VHDL source code to the glue logic and wrapper interface that can serve as a working baseline and reference design. Extensive documentation such as the CoSine UPL Developer's Guide is also included in the CoSine Development Kit.

Rugged Conduction and Convection Cooled Models

The MM-71xx series are offered in rugged convection cooled "DR" models and rugged conduction cooled "DT" models that each operate at temperatures of -40 C to +71 C. Both versions have been designed for optimal heat dissipation and deployment in environments that undergo severe shock and vibration. When fully configured with heat sinks, board stiffeners, and rugged mechanical components, each model is within the space constraints provided by the CMC/PMC draft standard, ANSI/VITA 20-2001 (R2005) for conduction cooled PMCs.
