Micrium uC/OS-II RTOS Support Now Available for Tensilica's Diamond Standard and Xtensa Configurable Processors.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. & WESTON, Fla. -- Tensilica(R), Inc. and Micrium announced that Micrium's uC/OS-II RTOS (1) (RealTime Operating System) An operating system designed for use in a real time computer system. See real time system, embedded system, process control and OS-9.  (real-time operating system (operating system) Real-Time Operating System - (RTOS) Any operating system where interrupts are guaranteed to be handled within a certain specified maximum time, thereby making it suitable for control of hardware in embedded systems and other time-critical applications. ) now supports Tensilica's Diamond Standard and Xtensa configurable processors. A port of uC/OS-II is now available on the Micrium web site at www.micrium.com/tensilica. The popular uC/OS-II RTOS now can run on all of Tensilica's Diamond Standard CPU CPU

and controller cores, including the Diamond Standard 108Mini, 212GP, 232L, and 570T, as well as most Xtensa configurations.

"Micrium's uC/OS-II RTOS is a very popular RTOS and was requested by several of our customers," stated Larry Przywara, Tensilica's director of strategic alliances. "It is valued because of its very small footprint and very reasonable royalty-free licensing. We expect that several of our customers will immediately start to use this RTOS."

"The popularity of Tensilica's processor cores has been increasing, particularly since the introduction of the Diamond Standard processor line," stated Jean Labrosse, president of Micrium. "By porting to Tensilica's processors, customers are now able to migrate current applications built around uC/OS-II to the Tensilica architecture."

uC/OS-II, The Real-Time Kernel, is a highly portable, ROMable, very scalable, preemptive real-time multitasking kernel RTOS for microprocessors and microcontrollers. uC/OS-II is provided with all source code, which is 100 percent portable ANSI C. Easily scaled because of the modular nature of the source code, uC/OS-II can present a very small footprint for space-constrained embedded designs. uC/OS-II has been widely embraced and can be delivered as a pre-certifiable software component for safety-critical systems, including avionics RTCA RTCA Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics

Tensilica has two main product lines: the Diamond standard processors and the configurable Xtensa processors. Tensilica's Diamond Standard processors are a set of six off-the-shelf synthesizable cores that range from area-efficient, low-power controllers to an audio processor and a high-performance DSP, all of which lead the industry in their respective categories both in lowest power and highest performance. Tensilica's Xtensa processors are configurable, extensible and synthesizable. Using automated Xtensa technology, the system designer molds the processor to fit the application by selecting and configuring predefined elements of the architecture and by inventing completely new instructions and hardware execution units that can deliver performance levels orders of magnitude faster than alternative solutions.
